DPRK, U.S. must build confidence before denuclearization

PYONGYANG, Jan. 26 (Xinhua) -- The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) and the United States should build confidence before realizing the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula, DPRK's official daily said Tuesday.

The DPRK approach to the nuclear issues of the Korean Peninsula was to solve the roots of the problems, the Minju Joson daily said in a commentary.

The United States had maintained its hostile policy towards the DPRK, by keeping up its military threat and sketching invasion plans, since the Korean war ended in 1953, the newspaper said.

The DPRK "had to take decisive measures to secure its survival," it added.

Only if the DPRK and the United States signed a peace treaty could a good atmosphere for the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula be created and all the other problems solved, the Minju Joson said.
