HONG KONG, March 25 (Xinhua) -- The Hong Kong government Thursday approved a 1.4 million HK dollars (about 180,529 U.S. dollars) grant as a relief for drought victims in the Chinese Mainland.

The decision came after the government accepted the advice of the Disaster Relief Fund Advisory Committee and the grant will be given to the Amity Foundation to undertake relief projects in Guangxi and Yunnan provinces of the Mainland.

A government spokesman said that the committee hoped the grant would help provide relief to the drought victims.

"To ensure that the money will be used for the designated purposes, the relief agency has been asked to submit an evaluation report and audited accounts on the use of the grant after the relief project has been completed," the spokesman said.
