On the second day of the UNFCCC’s 22nd Conference of Parties, two new nations agreed to join the Paris Agreement on climate change. That increased the total number of participating countries to more than 100.
The participating nations account for more than 70 percent of the world’s carbon emissions. COP22 President Salaheddine Mezouar said the growing number of participating nations shows commitment from all levels of society to continue toward a low-carbon economy.
“This conference has played an active role in encouraging countries to join the Paris agreement,” said Xie Ji, inspector, Climate Change Dept., NDRC.
