Preparations at the 70-thousand seat Marques de Sapucai samba venue started in November. But workers will only down their tools hours before the parades start.
Many tourists visit the avenue, designed by Brazilian architect Oscar Niemeyer, before the globally televised pageant. Eventually it will be flooded with lavish floats, bright costumes and near-naked beauty queens in feathered headdresses.
