Designers unveiled their Autumn/Winter 2010 collection over the weekend at London Fashion Week. And since London has a taste for the avant garde, it's vital for young talent as well as veterans to make a good showing.

Women should light up the dark nights of winter, and designer Matthew Williamson showed them how to do that with an exuberant display of slinky evening wear in vibrant colors.

Asked about his inspiration, the designer revealed that he had been looking at matadors, and Spanish dress in general.

The collection showed Williamson's easy approach, with gray and black checked wool overcoats set off by fur sleeves or collars in the same colors.

One dress had a thick, black fur collar atop a bright print, the effect was almost Siberian. The designer experimented with a bold, bright blue, presenting several deceptively simple dresses in that color.

Mark Fast showcased his knitted designs on Saturday at a venue in London's Covent Garden.

Canadian born Fast is known for his handcrafted looks that accentuate the female form.
