The Democratic People's Republic of Korea is urging the US to alter its policy in order to achieve de-nuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.
At Monday's debate of the UN General Assembly, the DPRK's vice foreign minister says Pyongyang was never against de-nuclearization of the peninsula and the rest of the world. But says the DPRK's efforts have not received reciprocal actions from the US. He accuses Washington of treating the Korean issue through its cold war mentality and only in accordance with its Asian strategy.
DPRK Deputy Foreign Minister Pak Kil Yon said, "The denuclearization of the Korean peninsula depends on whether or not the US changes its nuclear policy towards Korea. In order to realize denuclearization, the US administration must discard old concepts of confrontation and show change in practice as it has recently stated. We do not pursue a nuclear arms race. The mission of our nuclear weapons is to deter war."
