Over in Spain, the top of the La Liga resembled a spin cycle on Saturday evening. That's because Atletico Madrid would win their early game to go in front of leaders Barcelona, before Real Madrid jumped ahead of their city rivals a few hours later, leaving Barca needing a victory against relegation threatened Sporting Gijon to reclaim their position on the domestic perch. And Luis Suarez would rewrite league history for the Catalans by scoring four goals for the second game in a row.

And the Uruguayan's feat helps Barcelona reaffirm their hold on first place. The win comed with the help of three penalties, as the Catalans flatten Gijon 6-nil. Meanwhile, Gareth Bale would make up for the absence of Cristiano Ronaldo by scoring twice, as Real Madrid come back from two goals down to win 3-2 at Rayo Vallecano, while Atletico Madrid keep up their title hopes with a 1-0 home victory over Malaga.

So the championship picture remains unchanged. Barca and the Colchoneros both have 82 points, but the titleholders own a much better goal difference, while Los Blancos are just one point back, with three games remaining.
