In November 1934, three female Red Army soldiers sheltered at villager Xu Jiexiu's home during the Long March. Seeing the impoverished family shivering without bedding, the soldiers cut their only marching quilt in half before departing: "When the revolution is won, we will bring you a new quilt."
Xu waited for 50 years. The elderly woman later said: "What is the Communist Party? They are the people who, even with just one quilt, will cut half of it off for the people."
Torn in two was a quilt; woven forever were the hearts of the people.
